  • Spatula

Ingredients

Fudge Base

  • 2 cups granulated sugar Substitute with coconut sugar for less processed alternative.
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder Dutch-processed cocoa offers a milder touch.
  • 1 cup milk Almond or oat milk for dairy-free version.
  • ½ cup unsalted butter Margarine can be used for dairy-free.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Almond extract makes a delightful alternative.
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Chopped chocolate bars or white chocolate chips can be used.

Optional Mix-Ins and Toppings

  • 1 cup chopped nuts Omit for nut-free version.
  • crushed peppermint or colorful sprinkles Use any holiday-themed toppings desired.

Instructions

Directions

  • In a medium saucepan, mix the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and unsalted butter. Stir until fully combined, creating a smooth mixture.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir constantly to avoid burning. Heat until the mixture reaches a gentle boil, about 5 minutes.
  • Allow the mixture to boil without stirring for exactly 5 minutes.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and chocolate chips, mixing until they are completely melted and the fudge is smooth.
  • If using chopped nuts, gently fold them into the mixture.
  • Pour the fudge mixture into a greased 8x8 inch pan and sprinkle any desired toppings.
  • Allow the fudge to cool at room temperature until fully set, typically a few hours. Cut into squares for serving.
