Ingredients

For the Sweet Potatoes

  • 3 lbs Sweet Potatoes Yukon Gold can be used for a different flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Fresh garlic can be used for a stronger taste.

For the Creamy Sauce

  • 2 cups Heavy Cream Can substitute with low-fat milk or unsweetened almond milk.
  • 4 tablespoon Butter Olive oil can be used as a lighter alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg Can be omitted if not preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper

For the Topping

  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese Gruyère or mozzarella can be used for variation.
  • 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs Regular breadcrumbs can be used but panko gives a finer crunch.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish generously.
  • Thinly slice the sweet potatoes to about ⅛ inch thick using a mandoline slicer.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, melted butter, garlic powder, nutmeg, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  • Layer half of the sweet potato slices in the baking dish and pour half of the cream sauce over them. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  • Sprinkle the cheddar cheese and panko breadcrumbs on top, then drizzle with melted butter.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For added flavor, consider sprinkling fresh herbs like thyme on top before serving. Assemble ahead of time for convenience.
